Larry Bird, All-America star of unbeaten Indiana State, holds the National Association of Basketball Coaches award in New York, March 20,1979, after the announcement of his selection as college basketball player of the year. The winner of the annual Eastman Award said he plans to play in the NCAA final game Saturday against DePaul in Salt Lake City despite a broken thumb.
